| About Peter McCune - Peter’s family being singers encouraged him from an early age into traditional music and song, which became part of him. Classing himself as a singer-song collector, his most comfortable and relaxed place in the past has been singing and playing music throughout Ireland, Scotland and North America. His first gig was being support for Andy Irvine in the Sunflower Folk Club Belfast 1985. In 1992 he toured the East Coast of America performing in Universities, Irish Centres and Pubs, doing workshops on Irish/Scottish traditional music and song.
He then formed the band Innish, comprising Peter on guitar vocals, melodeon and harmonicas, Brendan Mulholland (flute, whistle) and Mark Mulligan (fiddle bodhran drum). Innish preformed at festivals, cultural events and also did some cross community work. The bands repertoire was a good cross-section of Irish traditional music and song. When the members of Innish went their separate ways, Peter went solo again, collecting and writing more songs. For two years he has done the Pub circuit in Scotland and Ireland. He has recently released the album Memories Embrace, made up of some of his favourite songs and tunes. Promoting this album he hopes to turn full-time professional over the next year. His aim is it to perform at festivals, Folk Clubs and cultural events as his repertoire suits these venues. Peter also sings for the band Ailsa, comprising Peter on guitar and vocals, Wilbert Garvin (uilleann pipes, whistles) and Barbara Gray (keyboards). Their recent project concentrates on composing music to poems from 18th and 19th century poets from Co. Antrim, sung in the native tongue of that time. Peter also makes Bowed Psalteries.
